Zoom / Projet : Marie Aerts

Marie Aerts works on power and any kind of social organization in human societies. She aims to question the different legitimizations of domination, in particular their links with belief. Through alterations, be there subtraction or transformation, the artist creates critical fictional works. She experimented etching during a recent residency at Artotheque in Caen, to create a kind of constellation of 14 re-interpreted texts and images inspired by The Beatitudes from the Bible.

Born in 1984 in France, Marie Aerts is graduate of Fine Arts in Caen. The artist became known for her figure of the Headless Man  which appears repeatedly in a diverse work, from performance to video, through photography, sculpture, painting and drawing. She has worked with the Harcourt studio to draw up various portraits she presented in a solo exhibition in the famous studio. Her career includes several exhibitions in art centers (Abbey of Maubuisson,WHARF Contemporary Art Centre in Hérouville St Clair, Château d’ Avignon, CaenArtothèque , Afiac in Tarn, Radar in Bayeux … ) . Her video Debarquement won the first prize in the Bandits -Mages festival in Bourges in 2011 and was presented at the Festival Paris / Berlin / Madrid in 2014.
